EMDR is a powerful, evidence-based therapy that helps the brain process distressing memories — freeing you from the weight of the past without having to talk through every detail.
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a structured therapy approach that helps people process traumatic memories and the distressing emotions attached to them.
Unlike traditional talk therapy, EMDR works directly with the way traumatic memories are stored in the brain. Using bilateral stimulation (typically eye movements), it activates the brain's natural healing process — allowing distressing memories to be reprocessed so they no longer trigger overwhelming emotional reactions.
The result? Relief from trauma, reduced anxiety, and the ability to move through life without being hijacked by the past.

EMDR Trained Through EMDRIA — Completed EMDRIA-Approved Basic Training, 2025
EMDR follows a structured 8-phase protocol. You'll never be rushed — we move at your pace, always keeping you safe and in control.
Understanding your background, current concerns, and therapy goals.
Building safety, trust, and coping tools before processing begins.
Identifying the specific target memory and associated beliefs.
Processing the distressing memory using bilateral stimulation.
Strengthening positive, adaptive beliefs to replace the old ones.
Identifying and releasing any remaining physical tension held in the body.
Returning to a state of equilibrium at the end of each session.
Reviewing progress and identifying next targets at the start of each new session.
EMDR is most well-known for trauma and PTSD, but research shows it's effective for a wide range of conditions.
No. EMDR doesn't require you to describe your trauma in detail. You'll hold the memory in mind while processing — without having to verbalize everything that happened.
It varies. Some people notice shifts in just a few sessions; complex or long-standing trauma may take longer. We'll assess your needs together and move at a pace that feels safe for you.
Both. EMDR can be effectively delivered via telehealth using specialized online tools for bilateral stimulation. I offer both in-person sessions at our Upper West Side office and telehealth.
Some clients do experience temporary emotional activation as memories are processed — this is normal and part of healing. I'll always ensure you have coping tools in place before we begin processing.
Coralle has completed EMDRIA-Approved EMDR Basic Training (2025) and is trained to provide EMDR therapy. Full EMDRIA Certification is a higher designation that requires additional hours of practice and consultation beyond Basic Training.
